Road-users urged to avail of free tyre checks on National ‘Tyre Safety Day’
Ahead of National ‘Tyre Safety Day’ which is taking place tomorrow Wednesday 5 October, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) are reminding road-users to check their tyres regularly in order to ensure they are roadworthy. Free tyre safety checks will be available at participating ITIA garages on ‘Tyre Safety Day’ tomorrow and throughout the week. This is just one of the road safety initiatives taking place nationwide for ‘Irish Road Safety Week’ which will run until Sunday 9 October.
Road Safety Alert – Yellow & Orange Weather Warning Issued for Heavy Rain
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is advising all road users to take extreme care when using the roads tonight and tomorrow (3 & 4 October) following a yellow weather warning from Met Eireann for heavy rain. It is likely to lead to accumulations of 30 to 50 mm of rain tonight with up to 70 mm forecast for Tuesday in parts of Galway, Mayo, Clare and Cork. An orange weather warning has also been issued for Kerry with between 60 – 100 mm expected between tonight and tomorrow.
Alcohol a Factor in 29% of Fatal Motorcycle Collisions Between 2008 and 2012
The fourth landmark Pre-Crash Report from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has revealed that almost a third of motorcyclists involved in fatal collisions between 2008 and 2012 had consumed alcohol. The findings of the report were presented at the RSA Annual Academic Lecture today, the first event of Irish Road Safety Week which runs until Sunday 9 October.
