About Maria

Maria Keller is just your average 14-year-old girl, who loves to read, play on the Wii, and explore the great outdoors with her Golden Retriever, Lilly.  She lives in Plymouth, Minnesota with her parents and 10-year-old brother, Ryan. She attends Orono High School and, when she is not busy counting and sorting books, she enjoys playing lacrosse and biking. She serves as Vice President of her Freshman class and is actively involved in her youth group at church.

Read Indeed is a 501c3 nonprofit literacy organization and the vision of Maria Keller, a book-loving 14-year-old who wants to make the world a better place—one book at a time.  Read Indeed’s mission is to promote literacy by collecting and gifting books to at-risk children.

Maria began Read Indeed when she was 8 years old and her original goal was to collect and distribute 1 million books to kids in need by the time she’s 18. She accomplished this goal before the age of 13! Now she wants to work toward 2 million books while distributing books to all 50 states in the U.S. and every country in the world. Having donated more than $4 million in books, Maria has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.

March 5, 2014
Maria was recognized for her immense contribution, as one of two youth nationally, to receive the Jefferson Awards. She was honored for her Outstanding National or Global Service by a Young American at the National Award Ceremony in New York City.

During the last five years, Maria has distributed millions of books throughout the world. After reaching her inital goal of collecting and gifting 1 million books, Maria hasn’t stopped dreaming. She is working toward 2 million books and wants to distribute books to all 50 states in the U.S., and every country in the world.
