Ireland’s only youth-focused music awards and festival is returning for their ninth year in the Aviva Stadium on April 16th.
Organised by Youth Work Ireland, the Irish Youth Music Awards is a national event where 12-19 year-olds come together to represent their community and show off their musical talents whilst gaining essential business experience. This festival also guests some of Ireland’s top people in the music industry.
This is an educational programme and is the official ‘Challenge Partner’ of Gaisce. Its aims are creating teamwork and friendship at a local level, the project also provides first-hand work experience in all areas associated with the music business such as PR, stage management, graphic design, photography and more.
Not only will these young performers get to sing on the Aviva Stadium stage but they will also receive master classes in vocals, drums, song-writing and bass and attend music industry panels led by music industry professionals including BIMM lecturers.
After performers have been chosen to represent their region at the local live selection nights who will be supported by a team made up of all other contestants from their region taking on individual music industry roles and the overall winning region will be announced on the day.
The winners will receive an incredible prize of a five-day recording session in a studio and a full backline provided by Music Maker Dublin. Also, they will produce their own album on a physical CD with a professional design with it being digitally distributed worldwide through iTunes, Spotify and many more outlets.
Last years winner Jake McArdle says, “The IYMA’s programme for me was a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and to ultimately grow my confidence as a person and a musician. I believe the programme is a great team project and provides great experience to learn about the music industry. The journey we went on as a team to get to the Aviva Stadium was great and I am now looking forward to mentoring other young people and supporting them while they get involved in the programme.”
