Election 2016

You’re probably tired of hearing about it, but the election is coming up soon and the result could bring big changes to our lives.

The election is only two days away and today is the last day of media coverage, which means all the information related to it will be out by the end of the day. The final debate at 9:35pm last night featured the leaders of the four main parties duking it out over their policies on RTE. Not only are they very entertaining, but they’re also hugely informative.

Voting is crucial, it’s how you can make a difference and ensure that the candidate that you feel represents your interests and the interests of the country is elected into a position of power, but figuring out who to vote for can be a chore. Smartvote.ie is a wonderful tool for getting through the political fluff and finding out what candidates are suited to you. It’s really intuitive too, just type in your constituency and answer the questions.

Newstalk.ie have a series of podcasts breaking down each constituency and the candidates within each and RTE have videos for each candidate across all constituencies.

I can’t stress enough how important the election will be. An opportunity to change the government of this country won’t come again for another 5 years, so those that get elected need to be who we want in government, who we need in government. There’s no shortage of parties, Fine Gael, Labour, Sinn Fein, Fianna Fail, AAA-PBP, Social Democrats and Renua are just some of them, and then there’s a number of independent candidates. With so much choice, there’s sure to be a candidate for you.

Don’t let anyone tell you who you should vote for, it’s a decision for you and you alone.

Whoever you vote for, be informed.
