TY Med camp is a two and a half day course designed specifically for Transition Year Students interested in a career in Medicine. The course is designed and directed by  Mr. Paul O’Grady Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Mon 27th  Tue 28th Wed 29th March,  Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. 

Monday the 27th of March: Registration from 09:00 to 09:30 Day finishes at 16:30 Lunch provided at Breaffy House Hotel
Tuesday the 28th of March:  09.30 to 16.30 Lunch provided at Breaffy House Hotel
Wednesday the 29th March: 09.30 to 12.30 Course Complete. No lunch provided on final day

What is TY Med Camp?

TY Med camp is a two and a half day course designed specifically for Transition Year Students interested in a career in Medicine. The course is designed and directed by  Mr. Paul O’Grady Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

This is a “NOT FOR PROFIT” course which is made possible by the Doctors and Nurses that kindly give of their time voluntarily. 

The programme covers a wide variety of topics and is designed to introduce the student to both undergraduate and postgraduate aspects of a career in medicine. It takes place in the Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

This interactive programme gives Transition Year students the opportunity to experience what it is like to train and work as a Doctor. Students have the opportunity to witness a live operation via video link to the operating theatre.

Topics covered include Human anatomy, Basic Life Support and Resuscitation, Spinal Immobilisation and Ambulance orientation, Suturing skill station, Fracture management and Casting, History taking and Clinical examinations surgery, obstetrics & paediatrics, orthopaedics, psychiatry, and medicine, including emergency medicine, cardiology, respiratory disease, renal disease & family practice.
